What is Hypnotherapy?

During your session, you will be guided into a state of deep relaxation also known as trance to change or improve sub-conscious behaviours that allow you to make the changes you want to make but find difficult. There are many misconceptions about trance, but most of us experience trance-like states on a daily basis, for example when we are driving along a route we are very familiar with, or when we are watching television.

How does Hypnosis Work?

Agreed suggestions are placed to your subconscious mind to help you to overcome problems. The hypnotic suggestions are only effective if you allow them to be.

Can Anyone be Hypnotised?

Yes, providing that the circumstances are right, the person is not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and the participant is willing. If you are undergoing hypnosis because someone else has pressured you into trying it, then it probably won’t work. As long as you are able to follow instructions and don’t have any significant mental illness, you can be hypnotised.

Is Hypnosis Safe?

Yes, hypnotherapy is completely safe and is a pleasant and relaxing experience. No one can be hypnotised against their will and even when in trance, people can still reject any of the suggestions given if they are not appropriate. We cannot change your personality, or who you are, but we can change habits and behaviour patterns that you want to change.

Are there any side effects with Hypnosis?

No, only positive side effects, which could be deep relaxation, reduced stress levels, feeling of being refreshed and motivated to name a few.

Will I lose control?

No, you do not relinquish control whatsoever. You are in complete control throughout and can stop the session at any time. You will be fully aware and hear everything that is said to you, as you are in a state of increased awareness. A
hypnotherapist can never gain control over your mind but will assist you, through suggestions, to take control of your life and the habits that you wish to change.

Will Hypnotherapy make me do silly things?

No, that is stage hypnosis which is completely different. Hypnotherapy, is for your own personal benefit and you will only do it if it is beneficial to you. I can’t, make you do anything you don’t want to do.

Will I fall asleep during trance?

A misconception about hypnosis is people think they will go to sleep. You will not fall asleep, rather remain completely aware of everything that is happening. It is possible to go into deep relaxation.

I am worried I may not ‘wake up’ from hypnosis.

Being in hypnosis is like resting with your eyes closed in a chair or lying down without being asleep. After the hypnotherapy session you soon return to your usual awake state feeling calm and relaxed.

How will I feel after Hypnosis?

Most people feel very relaxed and quite sleepy following hypnosis and have been known to sleep deeper than usual that night. Others feel exceptionally happy, positive and excited.
