What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy ?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a type of ‘talking therapy’, that combines the use of psychotherapy with hypnosis. Hypnosis or ‘trance’ is a very natural, relaxing state, encouraged by using guided relaxation. This enables the mind to relax and then focus on thoughts and suggestions that might be useful. The focus is on the solution rather the problem.
The 3 P’s in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy
The 3P’s are a fundamental part of solution focused hypnotherapy sessions as well as providing an understanding of how our brain works and what we can do to feel better. They can be described as follows:
Positive Action: These are the things that make us feel good and differ from person to person. They can be small things like listening to the birds or having a cup of tea in the morning when we wake up. It could be going for a walk with our dog, doing a yoga class or cooking our family a delicious meal.
Positive Interaction: This means spending and enjoying time with friends and family. As humans we are designed to work better as a tribe so interacting positively with others is extremely important for our wellbeing.
Positive Thinking: Building a positive mindset where we are able to see the positive in any situation. This really helps to reduce the anxiety and stress that comes from negative thinking. Focusing our thoughts on what is good can improve how we feel about ourselves and life in general.
What is Hypnosis and is it safe?
Committing to hypnotherapy is about you making the powerful decision to change. Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation when your unconscious mind is open to positive suggestions. There are many misconceptions about trance, but most of us can experience a trance like state. Examples of this are when we are driving a route we are very familiar with or when we are watching TV. It is a highly effective form of therapy that produces long-term results for a variety of issues.
Trance used during hypnotherapy is very different from ‘stage hypnosis’ or what you might see on the television. When we are in a trance state we are still in control. We process and decide whether information or suggestions are useful to us and we will not accept or do anything against our will.
